Im not sure what we are calling ourselves yet, but we'll think of something
Here are two of our ideas. Still deciding on which is best.
I really like the building and alley way. I was thinking we could put flowers in the holes of the building in the shape of half a heart, and then make the other half of the heart on the wall of the alley, and make it look like graffiti using chalk. It would be a monument to the city of willimantic, saying that even though there is poverty and run down areas, there is still love and beauty to be found.
So I said that Ernie Eldridge would be a good person to ask about using this building but then I asked around and I found out that the YMCA building is actually owned by a man named Tom Devivo and the town no longer owns that property. My dad has his email address somewhere and I'll try to get it for you. But my dad also said that the building is really starting to fall apart so to be careful if you're going to work with it. And I will definitely try to find that email address for you by Thursday.
Okay: So Mr. Devivo works/co-owner of Willimantic Waste and the number for this place is (860) 423-4527. Just be sure to ask for Mr. Tom Devivo and tell him about your plan for your project.
I tried calling Mr. Devivo twice now, and he has been unavailable to talk...hopefully he will call me back soon...If not should we start thinking about a plan B?
I talked to Emma in class thursday, she said she spoke to Mr. Devivo and he was unwilling to let us do this project with his building. The building is coming down, unstable, and scheduled to be demolished. So.. due to the unfortunate development we need to think of a plan B. We can either think of a different idea, or we can use the same sort of idea in a different place. Thursday me and kelsey walked around willimantic to find another place for our monument. We found a chain link fence that we could put a heart of flowers in. Thanks Theodore for the suggestion. it's on a one way street facing main street so everyone who drives down it would see it. Also, it would reqire much less flowers.
Each group in the class began by posting a photograph of a potential "monument" site here in Willimantic, CT. Comments about the place accompanied these preliminary images. Then, each group's proposed temporal monument was performed/ made/ constructed, on or around April 8. Results posted to the left.

The story begins on ground level, with footsteps. They are myriad, but do not compose a series. They weave places together. They are not localized; they spatialize. See the Class's own Maps of Meandering>>>>>
