Group DAAM

We found this little arch by the lookout spot on the Willimantic River. We thought it was something beautiful and interesting hidden in the most random place. This went along very well with our plan for our monument.

No name yet... Lauren, Tara, Olivia, and Brittany

We chose to do our monument on Main Street to involve the people of Willimantic. Our goal for this monument is to interact with the people of Willimantic and get their opinions on the city.

In the trees...

. . . we decided to build our monument to Robert Frost and the people who choose to go down the roads less traveled. Rather than bringing a monument to Main St, we thought it'd be interesting to build something on the arboretum's naturally beautiful trail because we believe that people who spend all their time time on main roads and in buildings could benefit from exploring their surroundings more. A monument in a less-accessible location not only honors the people who take the time to visit the location, but it could ideally inspire people to venture up into the woods for the first time.
Last class we began building the arch in the picture after Liz's location suggestion and we really enjoyed it, finding cool things like the skunk cabbage shown in one of the pictures. Meanwhile we thought to dedicate it to Frost , realizing how sad it was that a lot of people just "don't have the time" or motivation to visit spots like this.

Red Plastic Cups

Here is the scoop...my camera has gone missing and I am working on trying to find it...I was up in Boston this weekend and there is a strong possibility that my camera is not going to be found...but I will keep looking...for the record we did take pictures and did find some really great spots...sorry everyone... =(

In the trees

Alex has yet to post the pictures, so I am going to post about what we found;
in the nature trail, out inback of the parking garage, there is one big loop. Although this loop is pretty, you can still see the houses surrounding the outside perimeter....but there is a secret trail that people seem to walk by all the time...this trail leads into the middle of the loop, to a bridge with a brook, and a very nice spot to sit and think and read..
We have our idea (even though I dont think we are suppose to yet)..and the reason we didn't come back to class thursday is because we began building..(even though I dont think we were suppose to yet.)...I'd say it's quite a good idea though....and we have no name yet...Mary? Jimmy? Alex?

Im not sure what we are calling ourselves yet, but we'll think of something

Here are two of our ideas. Still deciding on which is best.

Where's Whitewater? (Temporary Team Name)

We don't officially have a group name yet, but our main theme is focused on what ever happened to the Whitewater park idea in Willimantic. The park site looks more like a trash dump. We felt like this area is the best area for making our monument.

We also found some things about our area pretty amusing:

Monumental Research

For Tuesday, March 9 please do internet or other type of research on one monument anywhere in the world that is interesting to you. The monument can be a giant bronze and granite thing, or a spoof of a monument, or a temporal monument.  Please post a picture of the monument you are researching and a paragraph on what you found interesting about it by Monday, March 8 at 8pm.  Come to class on Tuesday prepared to talk about your choice of monument.
